There are many factors that can cause problems for our hair on a daily basis: shampoos, conditioners, sprays, hairsprays, gels, dyes and treatments. A diet based on foods rich in substances is ideal for strengthening brittle and dull hair, as well as preventing hair loss and bleaching. In fact, one of the main causes of weakness and consequent hair loss often stems from an incorrect nutritional intake, and this simply because a structural part of the hair is made up of proteins as a fundamental element.

Dark chocolate, for example, has an antioxidant effect due to the presence of polyphenols, while magnesium activates enzymatic reactions important for healthy hair. Aromatic herbs, especially sage and basil, have a powerful antioxidant effect, while fruit in general provides a balanced supply of vitamins and spinach contains copper, which is responsible for the formation of melanin, which fixes the hair to the skin. Fish contains a lot of protein and Omega 3, which are good for vasodilation and powerful antioxidants if you don’t eat coloured fruit and vegetables, i.e. rich in polyphenols. Pine nuts, on the other hand, keep hair young because they contain resveratrol, which acts on the sirtuins, proteins whose job it is to “switch off” the genes that lead to premature ageing, including of the hair.
