Prof. Camillo Ricordi, Director of the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI) and Cell Transplant Center at the University of Miami and Chairman of the Board of Directors of IRCCS ISMETT Palermo, was recently awarded the title of “World’s leading expert in the field of pancreatic islet transplantation for the search of a cure for type 1 diabetes“.
He invented the first device capable of isolating large quantities of insulin-producing cells from the human pancreas and successfully conducted the first series of pancreatic islet transplants to treat diabetes. This procedure is now used in all medical centres around the world that perform islet transplants. Prof. Ricordi is the author of more than 1,000 scientific publications of the highest level, which have received more than 40,000 citations.
In 2017, he was appointed a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI), one of the most important international scientific awards, reserved for inventors in the academic world whose spirit of innovation and exceptional discoveries have had a concrete impact on the quality of life, economic development and well-being of society. In this interview, Prof. Ricordi explains how the body and immune system can be prepared to be ‘fit4pandemic‘, i.e. able to defend itself against pathogens such as viruses. Among the recommended dietary supplements is Sirt500 plus.
